Walking with Charlie

Talk by Stephen Lord

Stephen Lord, author of ‘Walking with Charlie: In the footsteps of the Forty-five’ will speak at Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre. About 20 years ago, Steve undertook the task of walking the whole route of the Jacobite army as it advanced from Loch nan Uamh to Derby and then withdrew to Culloden. He then followed the Prince’s route to the Western Isles, back to the mainland before his final escape to France. Steve will concentrate on some of the more interesting aspects of the walk and will consider the motivation of Prince Charles as he undertook this difficult journey.

The Threat to Culloden

Film premier of the short film ‘The last battle: Culloden under threat’ followed by short talk by Dr Christorpher Duffy and panel discussion. The programme closes with a talk: ‘Culloden and the beginning of occupation’ by Professor Murray Pittock.

The Historians’ Council on Culloden, led by Dr Christopher Duffy, was formed in 2017 to specifically research the Culloden battle action which occurred on ground outside the current National Trust for Scotland property (less than half the battlefield)  and to offer this information to relevant parties, the press, the government and the public.
